Beulah Mae Chronister, of Alton, MO, was born April 3, 1915, in the community of Woodside in Oregon County to Clarence Huddleston and Hettie (James) Huddleston.
She graduated as valedictorian in 1938 from Alton High School.
On March 13, 1941, she was married to Richard D. (Bud) Chronister in Salem, AR, and to this union, one daughter, Phyllis Jane, was born.
Beulah was a teacher in Oregon County for 33 years. She taught in the one or two room community schools of Brian, Whitten, Smyrna, Blackjack, Hollis and Nebo, and was also study hall keeper at the Alton High School. She came to the Alton Elementary as a 3rd grade teacher in 1957 and retired from the district in 1978. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher for many years.
She was a faithful volunteer at the Alton Senior Citizens Center for 20 years—answering the phone and playing the piano.
After accepting Christ as her Savior in 1933, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a member for 76 years and served as pianist for over 50 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bud; two brothers, Leonard and Bob Huddleston, and an infant sister, Vera Syble Huddleston.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Webb, of Alton, MO; a sister-in-law, Margie Huddleston, of Gladstone, OR; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many precious neighbors and friends.
At the age of 94, Beulah went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 17, 2009, at the Shady Oaks Health Care Center in Thayer, MO.
Visitation was Aug. 19, 2009 at Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO. Funeral was Aug. 20, 2009 at Macedonia Baptist Church, followed by burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
