Allen entered the service July 6, 1919 at Aberdeen, South Dakota and from there he was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, later being sent to Salt Lake City, Utah, and ther he signed up for service in Siberia. He was in Siberia about two months when he took the influenza, which developed into bronchial pneumonia. His folks received a letter from the captain of his company and from the Red Cross nurse in Siberia, who helped care for him during his sickness. They spoke highly of him and said he was a very true soldier and liked by all his comrades.
