Redding was the son of Nathan Snowden Perkins and his wife Mary Elizabeth Blount.
On Dec. 31, 1866, he married Susan Virginia Lightfoot of Norfolk, VA. She was the youngest child of Dr. Samuel Lyle Lightfoot and his wife Mary Francis Columbia Lee.
They had four children: Mary Lee, William N., Nathan Snowden and Daisy Lightfoot.
After Susan died, he moved to Anniston, Alabama. Later, he married Florence Connor on Jan. 31, 1889 in Wilson Co., NC.
