Doris Fay Christopher, 87, passed away in Palmer on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015.
Doris was born in Van Zandt County on Aug. 29, 1928 to Clarence and Gladys Allen. She grew up in Grand Saline and attended school there. On March 24, 1944 she married David A. Christopher and they made their home in Grand Saline before moving to Ellis County.
She worked for the Avalon ISD as a cook, for Ennis Care Center and for Ennis Hospital as a cook and for Donovan-Galvani as a seamstress. Her church home was Fundamental Baptist Church of Palmer. She enjoyed fishing, embroidery, playing domino’s especially 42 and crochet.
She will be missed by all and her memory will be cherished most by her family including sons Larry Christopher and wife Donna, and Barry Christopher and wife Diane; daughters Linda Glenn and husband Mike, and Joan Smith and husband Vernon; son-in-law Michael Haught; 20 grandchildren: 48 great-grandchildren: eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister Etta Catlett; two brothers: C.G. “Buck”: Allen and L.R. “Tink” Allen, her special companion Tooter Bug as well as a host of extended family and friends along with many others that lovingly called her “Grannie Chris.”
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband David A.Christopher; one son Andy Christopher; one daughter June Haught; two brothers, Willard and Hoss and three sisters, Joyce, Dorothy and Peggy.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.
A celebration of her life was Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with James Smith and Rodney Rickman officiating. Pallbearers will be Marty Haught, Justin Godwin, Michael Dean Haught, Jeremy Christopher, Stephen Christopher, Christopher Smith, Scott Heard, Jeremy Smith and David Christopher. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in Rodger Cemetery of Grand Saline under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
