1879-Death of Col. Aaron D. Dougall,--
The Picton Gazette has the following obituary notice of the late Col. Dougall, father of A.R. Dougall, Esq., of this city:

"For some time the deceased was suffering from ill health, and his friends were painfully aware that he was gradually passing away. He died at his residence, in Picton, on Tuesday last, surrounded by a few of his near relatives, having attained to the goodly age of 80 years, one month and two days.

Death dealt gently with him, as he passed away without a struggle, apparently only falling asleep. The news of his death will cause a feeling of profound sorrow where he was known.

In his earlier days, the deceased was one of the leading men of the County, and took an active part in its advancement. He also took a prominent part in military affairs, and rose from the ranks through merit to the position of Colonel in the Sedentary Militia. He is gone but his memory will long be cherished by those who knew him best, and his old companions in arms will feel a sense of sadness creep over them when they contemplate that one they always loved so well has passed away into the unknown.

William Dougal--father of the deceased--was a retired Surgeon of the Navy, and came to this county in 1777, and settled on the farm formerly owned by the subject of this brief notice. Out of a family of 12 children, only one survives--Mrs. J.R. Armstrong, of Toronto--who is now in the 90th year of her age."
