"Born in California to Robert Crane, Ky, prominent farmer and Sonoma County Supervisor, and Susan Davidson, Ky., she crossed the plains with her parents in 1849.
Mary married Jacob Jackson Lowry in 1882 and the couple later divorced."
Inf: Mrs Robert Lowry, 215 10th St., Santa Rosa, CA.

Mary Jane Crane was born in August of 1854 to Robert Crane and Susan (Davidson) Crane, of Kentucky. Her parents had crossed the Plains in 1849, settling in California a few years prior to her birth. Her father was a prominent farmer and Sonoma County Supervisor. She first married Jacob Jackson Lowry in 1882, but they later divorced. When the 1900 U S Census was taken, she was living in town, on 4th Street, and stated she was divorced, and a Barber. She had two young school girls, May and Ellen Ward, ages 16 & 17 yrs., respectively, who boarded from her. She also rented a room to her Uncle, Smith Ellis Davidson (1827-1906), a confirmed bachelor and farmer who worked his parents' farm just out of town. Coincidentally, he died on Apr 18, 1906 when debris from the 1906 Earthquake (which was also strongly felt in Santa Rosa, some 70+ miles to the NE of San Francisco) struck and killed him. Mary went by the name Lowrey. Her 2nd marriage was to a Mr. B.D. Brown,(b.1863 on marriage license) on Sep 26, 1907 in Marin County, CA. There is a Mr. Benedict Brown buried in Santa Rosa Memorial Park in Santa Rosa, CA. His headstone shows that he was b.1862 and died in 1929. I believe that when Mary died in 1915 she was buried in Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery & then, fourteen years later, when Benedict Brown passed, the other cemetery had opened, so he was interred there. I have not been able to find any other persons who even closely match the person she married that September day in 1907 down in Marin County. I also cannot find where she had any children from either marriage. Even though her last marriage was to Benedict D. Brown, she is buried under the name Mary Lowrey. Benedict Brown is Find A Grave memorial #48326871.

I have received an email advising me that some of the information I had was in error. Mary Jane Crane married Jacob Jackson Lowery, a native of Missouri, b.@1849 prior to 1880. They were married and living in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., CA. when the 1880 Census was taken on June 9th, 1880. Jacob was employed as a mail carrier at the time. They had a son, Robert Denton Lowery who had been born in 1872.
Per the email, Robert Denton Lowery was born Nov 8, 1872 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., CA. He later married Etta E. Fisher and they had a son, Robert A. Lowery. Robert Denton Lowery died on June 24th, 1931 in San Francisco, San Francisco Co., CA from a brain tumor. I was not able to find him on Find A Grave. I have written the person who emailed me asking them to advise me if they are aware of where he is interred.
