Myra Abell Breed (1877-1945) was the first of four children, three daughters and a son, of Caleb (1843-1897) and Harriet (Ball, 1855-1941) Abell, and she was born, probably in Warren, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, in May, 1877. Her father was a farmer in Warren. When the 1900 census was completed, twenty-three-year-old Myra was single, living with her parents and working as a milliner. The family was living at 508 Second Street in Towanda, Bradford County then. The two younger sisters, Clara (1886-1974) and Mary (1890-1979) had come along by then. Brother George, born four years after Myra, died at fifteen in 1896 when she was about nineteen. According to vital records, Myra married Robert C. Vain (b. 1865) on February 22, 1908, but nothing shows up on this in the census records. The married name on her headstone is Breed, and a Myra of this name was living with her husband Fred in Cleveland, Ohio in both the 1930 and the 1940 censuses. According to her headstone in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Towanda, Pennsylvania, Myra died in 1945. She would have been about sixty eight years of age. This was just four years after her mother’s death.
