CLIFFORD E. HIGGERSON SR.
Clifford E. Higgerson Sr., 72, of 1833 Logan St., Murphysboro, died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Murphysboro.
Mr. Higgerson was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America. He belonged to the First Pentecostal Church, Murphysboro.
He was born in Willisville on March 1, 1901, son of the late Joseph Wesley and Effie Slusher Higgerson.
He married Annabel Creason in Murphysboro on Dec. 6, 1924. She died in 1948. He was married to Vana Davis in Murphysboro on June 23, 1962.
Survirors are his wife, Murphysboro; four daughters, Mary Chaney, Murphysboro, Kathleen Giacomo, Pinckneyville, Margaret Tucker, Columbia, and Leonora Jenkins, Grand Tower; two sons, Tom, Barnhart, Mo., and Clifford Jr., stationed with the U.S. Navy at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., six sisters, Anna Lee Grosvenor, Edith Worthen, Emma Browder,and Oehlia Easton, all of Murphysboro, Nettie Foncree, Chester, and Lucy Albritton, Baton Route, La.; three brothers, Chester, Murphysboro, Joseph, Dupo, and Earl, Denver, Colo.; and eight grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Church, Murphysboro, with the Rev. Paul Worley officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery, Murphysboro.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today until noon Monday at the Dennyand Pettett Funeral Home, Murphysboro.
