Jul 10, 1966) "Funeral services for Jacob Ils were held Wednesday July 13 from Philadelphia Congregational Church in Ritzville, with Rev Ernest Sprenger conducting the services. Mr. Ils died July 10 at the age of 88 years. Pallbearers were grandsons, Carl Ils, Tom German, Jack Scrupps, Lorus Scrupps, Danny Gettman and Bruce Benzel. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Jacob Ils was born July 8, 1878 in Walter, Russia. On Jan 6, 1898 he was married to Kathryn Margaret Schoessler. He served six years in the Russian army, four years, 1899-1903 on the Turkish border and two years in the Russian-Japanese war, 1904-1906. In 1912, he with his family immigrated to the US, arriving in Odessa, WA June 10, 1912. he lived in the Odessa-Ritzville area until his retirement from farming in 1937. He is survived by two sons, George, Ritzville, and Adam, Seattle; and four daughters, Mrs. Joel (Molly) German and Mrs. Lawrence (Alma) Benzel, Ritzville; Mrs. John (Marie) Scrupps and Mrs. Dan (Lydia) Gettman, Odessa; a son Jacob preceded him in death in 1937. Seventeen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Ils' first wife died in 1934. He later was married to Katherine Becker of Odessa who died in 1959. Four step-daughters surviving are Mrs. Clara Lesser, Moses Lake; Mrs. Hanna Becker and Mrs. Anna Schaefer, Medical Lake; and Miss Lucille Becker of Seattle." (Odessa Record: 7-21-1966)
