Uncle Shade as we always called him was born on Oct. 7, 1903 to George Alva Allen and Lena Oakley Allen near Greenwood, Indiana. He attended schools in the nearby Whiteland, Greenwood area.

Married in Oct. of 1933 to Lila Pearson of Kentucky and was father to Patty Allen Deer. Grandfather to Lois Deer Ascough and Bruce Deer.

Always went by his middle name "Shade". Greatly loved by his nieces and nephew Karen, Janet and Jeff Allen.

His siblings were Murl Allen, Mary Jane Allen Brann, Deloris Allen, Ida and Ina Allen (who died in infancy), Charles Allen and Martha Allen Downs.

He was a steam fitter for Stokley Van Camp of Greenwood and was a member of the Whiteland Methodist Church. Shade was also a member of the Pioneer Steam Engineers Club and was a 50 year member of the Whiteland Jubilee Masonic Lodge 746 F&AM. He enjoyed reading and steam engines.
