Subject: William Edmund (Edmond?) Alexander (called "Uncle Ed" by his family, b. 1831 in GA), son of Mordica Manning Alexander (1795-1868, b. GA) and Judith M. Shackleford (1794-1850/1860, b. GA).

The following is from William D Wallace with information on Kate Alexander provided by John Lang of Ga. From an e-mail dtd. 26 May 2000.

According to at least two transcriptions of his bible made by his nieces, William E Alexander was born 7 Jan 1831, probably in Gwinnett County, Ga but not really determined. Interestingly, an account of a William E. Alexander in Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers 1861 - 1865 gives the birth date of that WEA as 1837 in Gwinnett Co., Ga. Is this a case of misreading the original document as a 7 instead of a 1, or is this a different WEA?

The grave marker in Clearwater Municipal Cemetery for his next oldest sibling, Judith R (Alexander) Reynolds, states that she was born in Gwinell (sic) Co in Mar 1830 ( Those transcriptions of Uncle Ed's or WEA Bible records say 27 Mar 1829).William E. Alexander was the sixth of twelve children of Mordica Manning Alexander and wife, Judith M (Shackleford) Alexander. Land records of Elbert Co, Ga place his parents in Gwinnett Co in 1825, 1826, and 1828. (Records show a John Alexander, Rev War Vet from S C also in Gwinnett Co about this time.)

Marriage records ( will book A, p. 245 ) in the Jones Co., Ga Courthouse in Gray, Ga list a William E Alexander marrying 21/22 May 1858 Frances E Childs.

Old Hillsborough ( now Pinellas ) Co, Fl deed TT 176 - 179 list William E and wife, Frances, selling 10 ac to Jno R Jeffords, the son of John William Jeffords and wife, Sarah E Alexander, sister of WEA. An obit in The West Hillsboro Press 14 July 1905 reports the death of Mrs W E Alexander in her 76 year and born in Macon, Ga (about 1839 and just South of Jones Co.) Was there an earlier marriage for William Edmund Alexander ?

Family Sketches of Jones County Ga, Childs Section pp21 - 55, list (undocumented) a Frances E Childs as born 1839, d ?, the daughter of William Rucker Childs, b 23 Jan 1814, d 12 Aug 1890 and wife Amanda Middlebrooks, b 12 Jun 1818, d16 Nov 1875. This also has Frances E Childs md 22 May 1858 to William E Alexander. The father of William Rucker Childs is given as John Childs, Jr, b 10 Sept 1797, d 10 Sept 1843, md1 20 Dec 1812 in Elbert Co, Ga to Elizabeth Rucker and md2 15 Feb 1820 in Elbert Co, Ga to Sarah Alexander ( Sarah Alexander, 2nd wife of John Childs, Jr is thought by some to be the sister of Mordica Alexander and thus the aunt of William Edmund Alexander.)
