Isabelle was the eldest of the Stuberg children. She was about 10 when the family came to America. In her later years she would talk about how she would visit her grandma in Norway and sit on the sod roof of a building there. From there she could look at the water. She would bring her doll up on the roof to play with.

She married Hans Haug, who came from Eidsberg, Norway. This was Hans' second marriage. He had several children from his first marriage. The haugs apparently changed the spelling of their name several times. --from Haug to its present day 'Howe'.

Hans and Isabelle had 12 children. Hans was a machinest and a farmer. Isabelle was remembered as a very strict woman. She lived with her son, Dewey's family in Evansville in her later years. Dewey and his wife, Hannah, were both needed to work on their parents farm. They could not marry until Hannah's mother died, and that farm was sold. They married and took care of Isabel and Ida.
