LA FERIA/ AUSTIN, TX. - Loyd H. Bodenhamer, 98, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his son's residence in Austin, TX.
Loyd was born on December 6, 1910 in Clinton, OK to Ashel and Flora Bodenhamer. He was informally educated through alert observation and creative interpretation. He was an entrepreneur who created and operated several self-service businesses including laundry service machines, car washes, and gas stations. He also built several commercial buildings. Loyd was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Loyd moved to the valley in 1973 with his first wife, Margaret, who died in 1977 after 33 years of marriage. He later married Frances Roush who was well known and respected life long resident of the valley. They shared 22 years of marriage until her death in 2001. He was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen.
Loyd was an independent soul who drove until his 97 year. Always an active man, he had a strong interest in managing his own health care through natural medicines. He spent many hours in his later years managing an on-line stock portfolio and studying market trends. Loyd had a great love of the outdoors, which he instilled in his children by example.
He is survived by his children, Carole Ferguson of Yellville, AR, Melissa Murray of Tubac, AZ, Hal Bodenhamer aka John Delta of Nevada City, CA, Keith Bodenhamer of Austin, TX, Harriette West of McAllen, TX and Jim Raush of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren, Holly Ferguson of Austin, TX, Lane Ferguson of Yellville, AR and Elizabeth Transier of Austin, TX; and 2 great grandchildren.
