Mr. Hargis was the son of the late Edgar Hargis Sr. and Lora Bell (Farmer) Hargis. He retired after 27 years at Grissom Rakestraw Lumber Company and was a member of the Burnside First Baptist Church. He was a former Burnside City Councilman. He was a sportsman, and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting.
He was survived by his second wife; two sons; two daughters; a sister; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Lou Ann (Bolin) Hargis; a brother, Carlos Hargis; a sister, Stella Bradley; and a great grandchild, Jarad Michael Allen Hurtt.
