Daughter of James & Tabitha Litton Allen. They were natives of North Carolina and of English descent. Wife of John Newland. Resided in North Carolina until 1818, when to leave slavery behind, they came to Indiana, and eventually making their home in Lawrence County. They were the parents of Nancy, Hannah E, Samuel [died from over-exertion at a house-raising], James Harvey, Benjamin Franklin, Margaret [Peggy], John Wesley, Hugh Tate, Elihu Columbus, Robert Calhoun, and Sarah Catherine. Agnes outlived her husband by 29 years. During that time her father lived his remaining days with her, and then Agnes lived with son Robert and next to son Elihu. Agnes died at the age of 73.
