Former Resident Dies
Mrs. J. B. Mahorney, an elderly woman, who lived at this place between 1868 and 1899, and who was well known by all the older residents of this place, died at the home of a son at Lebanon, Ind., last Friday and the body brought here Monday, funeral services being held at the home of Wm. Swift, an old friend of the family, at three o'clock in thh afternoon, conducted by Rev. B. W. Tate, of Homer. Burial at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Mrs. Mahorney had just recently returned from a visit with her children in Oklahoma, and her death was very sudden, her last illness lasting only a few days. The cause of her death is given as acute peritonitis. She visited here last fall shortly before going to Oklahoma and appeared then to be in good health. She was born in Kanawha county, West Virginia, April 7, 1833, and accompanied her parents to Indiana in 1838. She married John Haun in *April 1851 to whom were born three sons, John, deceased; Albert E., of Logansport, Ind.; and W. E. Haun, of Lebanon, Ind. In 1854 she was left a widow. She again married in 1857 to James B. Mahorney and became the mother of six children by this union. The children of her second marriage who survive her are; Bruce, Morton and Mrs. Florence McMullen, all of Woodard, Okl.; Marion Mahorney of Los Angeles, Cal.; and Ed Mahorney of Fithian, this state. One brother, Marion McDowell of LaFayette, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Melvina Mendenhall, Indianapolis, Ind., are living. She had been a member of the Christian church for sixty years.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral here Monday were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Haun and two daughters, of Lebanon, Ind.; Albert Haun, of Logansport, Ind., and Mr. and Mrs. Mahorney and two children of Fithian.
