She was born Jan. 22, 1907 in Jamestown, daughter of the late Austin and Rosa Harting Heady.
She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Pittsboro Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a teacher for more than eight years. After teaching she worked as a social worker for Boone County for 13 years. She then worked at the Department of Public Welfare in Marion County, Indiana for more than 27 years where she became the head of the department. Her retirement was celebrated by the Indianapolis mayor proclaiming a "Helen Heady Day."
She was preceded in death by sister Esther Heady.
