SABETHA --- Irvin J. Wisdom, 84, Sabetha, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Salem, Neb., to Jesse and Elizabeth Mincher Wisdom. He spent his early life in the Bern community and attended Riverside School near Bern. He was a farmer for many years in the Bern, Seneca, Berwick and Dubois, Neb., communities and later southwest of Sabetha. He then lived in the Woodlawn community northeast of Goff for nearly 30 years before he retired and moved into Sabetha on Dec. 1, 1979.

He attended the Woodlawn Baptist Church and later was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church in Sabetha. He had been a member of the Goff Lions Club and the Goff Fire Department and was instrumental in organizing the Nemaha County rural fire district.

He married Pauline H. Wempe on Nov. 26, 1935, in Seneca. She survives. A daughter, Vonda McClain, died Dec. 20, 1994.

Other survivors include two sons, Eldon Wisdom, Concordia, and Ronald Wisdom, Silver Lake; a brother, Leonard Wisdom, Sabetha; a sister, Neoma Eichenberger, Sabetha; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.

Burial will be in Sabetha Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Brethren in Christ Church in Sabetha or to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
