Arthur Carl Heckenlaible, born in Menno, South Dakota, was the son of Karl J. Heckenlaible and Regina Seydel Heckenlaible of Menno. He graduated from Iowa State University and spent most of his professional career as City Engineer and Director of Public Works for Lodi, California.

OBITUARY:
Arthur C. Heckenlaible, 89, of Lodi, died Sunday at his home.

A native of South Dakota, Mr. Heckenlaible came to Lodi in 1945 after living in several U.S. cities across the country, including Milwaukee, Chicago, and Oklahoma City. He worked as Building Inspector and as City Engineer and Director of Public Works in Lodi before retiring in 1964. He was a member of the United Congregational Christian Church, where he sang in the choir for 42 years. He was a member of the Lodi Lions Club, the American Association of Retired Persons, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and a member of S.I.R.S. He was an Army veteran. His hobbies and interests included music and bicycle riding. He was often seen riding his bicycle around town, even the day before his death. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1924. After his retirement, he worked as a consulting engineer for several California communities.
