LAKELAND - Donald Ray Bracken "Uncle Don", USAF, ret., age 76, of Lakeland, died August 9, 2009 due to heart failure.
Don was born January 5, 1933 in Cambria County, PA and moved to Lakeland in 1971. Don is a retired Tech Sergeant with over twenty years of service with the United States Air Force, Intelligence Division serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He is also retired with over twenty years of service with United States Postal Service. He is a life member of AmVets, #32, VFW #2297 Posts, both of Lakeland; Moose Lodge #2295; Eagles Lodge #4356 both of Lakeland and the American Legion Post #8 of Winter Haven. Don enjoyed playing darts, singing karaoke, family reunions, golfing, playing pool and dancing.
Don is survived by his wife, Joan of Lakeland; sisters, Dorothy Waldron of Nantyglo, PA, Lucky George of Vintondale, PA and Shirley Kozlovac of Nantyglo, PA; his brother, James Bracken of Pennsylvania; daughters Trudy Powell of Lakeland, FL, Jodie Wiggington of Gladstone, MO, Tammy Osborn of Lakeland, FL; sons Randy Bracken of Lakeland, FL, Corey Rosendal of Lakeland, FL and ten grandchildren.
Military services will be rendered 2pm Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Following services, friends and neighbors are invited to the Lakeland VFW Post on Central Avenue for fellowship and refreshments. Don requested donations in lieu of flowers to any VFW or Military Club.
