He was born May 17, 1921, in Vermillion County, Indiana, the son of the late Jesse and Wilhelmina Kinderman Hornbeck. He married Elma Marie Neild on Sept. 5, 1939, in Covington, Indiana. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1994.
Survivors include seven grandchildren, Lloyd Chapman Jr., Kenny (Terri) Chapman; Diana (Mark) Hampton; Rhonda Chapman; Jeff (Mandi) Hornbeck; Julie Jackman and Christina (Chris) Bryant; 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Norma Chapman, Shirley Straw and Marilyn Cocheran; one sister; and one brother.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
