Although she was my "aunt Marie", she was Verna to her friends. A soft spoken lady who was an adoring mother to her two daughters and a loving wife of 55 years to her husband, Murphy.
Verna Marie Stock Hudson was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Bellville, Illinois, to William Jacob and Loretta Driver Stock. In 1945, she married Murphy Foster Hudson, Jr. He was a career member of the US Air Force and this took them many places. They lived in Japan, Turkey, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Kansas City, where they returned to the U.S. to stay in 1983. Verna Marie was an active member of Country Club United Methodist Church, The Order of the Rainbow, Children's Center For Visually Impaired - where she volunteered for over 20 years.
OBITUARY:
Verna Marie Hudson, 86, of Kansas City, MO, passed away March 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Funeral services were 10:30am, March 18, at Country Club United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial followed at Mount Moriah Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to her husband. Visitation was held 6 - 8pm, March 17, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions were accepted to Children's Center For The Visually Impaired.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Murphy Foster Hudson, and her brother, Delmar Stock. She is survived by her 2 daughters, a sister, 5 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Arrangements were handled by Mr. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home.
