H. Guy Varner, 76, of 748 Lawrence Blvd., died Wednesday morning at St. Joseph Hospital after a year's illness.

Varner was a core maker at ITT Grinnell for 38 years, retiring in 1979.

More recently, he worked part-time at Stauffers of Kissel Hill, Rohrerstown.

He and his wife, Dorothy Humbert Varner, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last September.

Born in Mount Union, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Villa Shore Varner. Varner was a member of Kinderhook Evangelical Congregational Church, Columbia R3, where he served on the board of trustees for 20 years.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Gary E. of East Petersburg and Ivan R. of Three Springs; a daughter, Joyce A., wife of Lee H. Stauffer, Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sisters, Zola Brechbiel and Eunice Parks, both of Maple Depot R1, Lolita Snyder of Burnt Cabins, and Vera Try of Mount Union; and a brother, Thomas Varner of Maple Depot R1.
