She was born in Napoleon, Ohio, on December 20, 1946, the daughter of the late Bernard and Vivian (Coressel) Weidenhamer. Karen was a 1964 graduate of Paulding High School. On Aug. 22, 1964, she married Phillip E. Brown, who died Aug. 11, 2009.
She was an active member of St. Isidore Catholic Church at Marysdale. She had served on the parish council as a lay distributor to shut-ins, CCD instructor and past president and officer of the Altar Rosary Society. She had also served on the Ney Park Board, Ney Homecoming Committee, Fairview Athletic Boosters and Central Shares. She was a school bus driver for Central Local Schools for 34 years and a librarian aid for over 25 years. Karen collected angels and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State.
Karen will be missed by daughters, Beth (David) Kroa of Niles, Michigan, Brenda (Lee) Schlosser of Paulding and Barbara (John) Marlin of Ney; sons, James (Kelly) Brown of Defiance, Jay (Jennifer) Brown of Defiance, Jerry (Rhonda) Brown of Liberty Center; children by choice, Dan and Jennifer Volz of Ney; and brothers, Eugene (Linda) Weidenhamer of Paulding and Leslie (Sandy) Weidenhamer of Paulding. She also is survived by 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Phillip; two brothers, David Weidenhamer and Daniel Weidenhamer; and a grandson, James Kroa.
Visitation is from noon-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 2, at St. Isidore Catholic Church at Marysdale, 06324 Ohio 15, Defiance, with Father Robert Kill and Father John Stites officiating. Burial will be in Ney Cemetery.
