A.W. (Butch) Goldsmith, 78, of 1229 South Stewat, died at the Community Nursing Home on Tuesday.

He was born at Lincoln, IL, 9 Dec 1879, the son of the late Sherman P. and Mahala Shockney Goldsmith. [Actually, the son of Thomas Goldsmith and Mahala Shockey. The Goldsmith family moved from Lincoln to Sedalia shortly after 1880. His father died after moving to Sedalia and his mother married 2nd in 1889, William Sherman Armstrong, who helped raise her children by her first marriage.]

On 27 Feb 1907 he married Miss Janie Atkinson, in Sedalia. She passed away on 31 Aug 1951.

Together, Butch and Janie had five children. One daughter, Nora Margaret Goldsmith, died in 1912 [1913] at the age of 5.

Preceding him in death was one sister, Mrs. Lottie Collier, and one brother, D.P. Goldsmith.

Left to mourn his passing are two sons, Ernest Goldsmith of Sedalia and Wesley Goldsmith who left Sedalia a number of years ago; two daughters, Mrs. Bob Kahrs of Sedalia and Mrs. W.M. Carlock of Shreveport, LA; four grandchildren and 2 great grand children.

Pall bearers will be 6 nephews: John Atkinson, Howard Atkinson, William Atkinson, Albert Lindsey, John Goldsmith, Robert Goldsmith.
