DR. ARTHUR DAVIS, OF DURANGO, FORMERLY OF JEFFERSON COUNTY, DESPONDENT OVER POOR HEALTH. SHOOTS SELF
Despondent over continued poor health, Dr. Arthur L. Davis, prominent specialist of Durango and a former Jefferson county man, committed suicide on Christmas day at the home of his brother-in-law, Fred Rogers, who lives near Golden. Dr. Davis, who had been practicing medicine in Durango for more than twenty years, was one of the best known men of the southwestern part of the state.
Dr. Davis, who was the son of the late Harpin Davis, was born in Jefferson county and lived on Ralston creek until young manhood. His wife was Miss Eugenia Rogers, of this county. His wife, one daughter and one son survive him. He also leaves one brother, Chas. Davis, of Ralston creek, and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Seavey, of Denver, and Mrs. Hattie Matheson of Los Angeles.
Dr. Davls was a graduate of the Colorado Agricultural college, and of the Gross Medical college. After receiving his medical degree he went to St. Anthony's hospital, where he served for three years as an intern. Then he went to Central City, where he practiced for a little over a year, going from that city to Durango. Later he took post graduate work in Chicago and New York City, and became one of the most eminent eye, ear, nose and throat specialists in the state. He was very prominent in school, civic and lodge affairs in Durango. He formerly belonged to the Golden Odd Fellows lodge, later transferring to Durango. he was also a member of the Masons, Woodmen and Elks.
Funeral services will be held at the Woods & Sanders parlors tomorrow at 1:30, under auspices of the Golden Masonic lodge.
