Francis "Marion" Johnson, prominent banker and lumber dealer in Kansas for many years, was born in Rockville, Indiana, April 23, 1854, and died at Erie, Kansas, February 11, 1932. He was the son of John and Mary (Loftus) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson attended public school in Rockville, Indiana, and in early life engaged in farming, and as a grain dealer.

As a boy of 16 he drove a covered wagon from Rockville, IN to Erie, KS, where he spent the rest of his life.

He was an active worker in the Republican party, and for a number of years was a member of the Erie School Board. He was president of the Bank of Erie, and the owner of several thousand acres of land. He was a Blue Lodge Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite body at Fort Scott, KS, and of the Shrine at Pittsburg, KS. He was also a member of the Red Cross.

Of his marriage to Lucy Alice Beard there is one child living and two deceased, Mina, born October 6, 1878, who died May 9,1920; Fred, December 31, 1879, who married Vera L. Lodge; and Arthur, March 9, 1882, who died January 18, 1901.

His son, Fred, is the manager of the firm of Johnson & Son.
