Wife of Henry Ferguson. In the 1880 U.S. Census, it states that both of her parents were born in North Carolina. However, there is also a curious record of her as the head of household, widowed, living with her nephew, James Buchanan Osborne Ferguson. Family record show that she and husband Henry helped raise James after his parents both passed away while he was still a youngster. Henry is not listed, and yet his marker lists his death date as 10 Aug 1882. This begs two questions: Was Henry actually still alive in 1880 and the enumerator mistakenly listed Mary as a widow? Or... Is the inscription of Henry's death date incorrect?
