Zeke Evans dies at home here Sunday

Zeke Evans, 79, retired lumberman and resident of Decatur most of his life, died at 9:05 a.m. Sunday at his home, 710 Reiter Street. He had been in failing health for six months.

He was born in Howard City, Mich., Aug. 23, 1890, a son of Steve and Serena Humble-Evans, and was married to Ethel Stettler, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Evans was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Evangeline) Whitham and Mrs. Melvin (Myrtle J.) Baumgartner, both of Decatur; three sons, Edward R. Evans of Decatur, Carl D. Evans of Waverly, O., and Judson J. Evans of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. One son, Fred, and five sisters and one brother are deceased.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Winteregg-Linn Funeral Home, with Rev. James E. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until time of the services.
