Homer—Funeral Mass for Eugene J. Happ, 74, of Homer will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 311 E. Madison St., Philo. The Rev. Keith Walder will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, southeast of Philo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer, with rosary said at 8 p.m.
Mr. Happ died at 11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 14, 2005) at home.
He was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Pesotum, a son of Anton and Alice Stenger Happ. He married Frances Mary Jean Denham on May 15, 1954, in London.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Happ of White Heath, Craig Happ of San Antonio and Chris Happ of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two daughters, Ellen Riggins of Newman and Sheree Denham of Champaign; two brothers, Don Happ of Philo and Dennis Happ of Homer; a sister, Eileen Demoss of Broadlands; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Happ graduated from Villa Grove High School in 1949, and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1953, in London. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Philo, VFW Honor Guard in Villa Grove, Homer American Legion Honor Guard, Homer Share Meal Program, Homer Share Program, Homer Historical Society and Homer Lions Club. He was a member of the ABL School Board for eight years and a Champaign County Outstanding Volunteer in 2002. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and garage sales.
Memorials may be made to Homer Historical Society, St. Thomas Catholic Church or GAR Cemetery.
