Loetta I. Duey, the daughter of Clarence Palmer and Helen Davis Palmer, was born Aug. 5,1925, at Deshler and passed away on Aug. 10, 2009, at the Republic County Hospital at the age of 84 years and five days.

Loetta grew up and attended the public schools of Chester, graduating from Chester High School. After high school, she received Normal Teacher Training and taught school for a year.

On April 29,1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond A. Duey and to this union was born, Rosa Lee, Bob, David, Diane and Pete. The couple made their home in the Chester area for many years where they farmed and ranched. In 1962, they moved to the Sand Hills of Nebraska for one year and then purchased a farm in Haddam, Kan., where she worked with her husband farming and ranching for many years until their retirement in 1998 when they moved to Belleville, Kan.

Loetta was a member of the Christian Church in Chester, the Haddam Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the women's groups of the church along with Vacation Bible School. She later was a member of the Central Christian Church in Belleville where she was involved with the C.W.F.

Loetta was a 4-H leader, collected souvenir spoons and cast iron cookware. While at Haddam, she worked at the Uptown Mart for two years and also cooked at the North Central Grade School for two years. Loetta and Raymond rarely missed attending Chester Alumni Reunions and were faithful in watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren in their activities. They also enjoyed attending auctions. Loetta mainly was a mother and friend to her children and worked side by side with her husband on the farm. Raymond preceded her in death on July 31, 2009.

Loetta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Duey, grandson, Tad Walter; granddaughter, Jannae Beth Duey; great-granddaughter Bella Vannicola, great grandson Brenden Lee Tate; son-in-law, Richard Walter, brother, Phillip Palmer; sister, Beth Ann; two brothers in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Loetta is survived by children, Rosa Lee Walter of Washington, Kan.; Bob (Sandy) Duey of Scandia, Kan.; David Duey of Grantsville, Utah; Diane (Fred) Miller of Morrowville, Kan.; and Pete Duey of Clyde, Kan.; brother, Elmore Palmer of Livingston, Texas; sisters, Edith Kleen of York, Dorothy Duey of Lincoln and Donna Snyder of Belleville, Kan,; sisters-in-law, Ruby Baloun of Hebron and Rita Palmer of Big Springs, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, at the Central Christian Church, Belleville, Kan., with Mark Imel, officiating.

Interment will be at the Chester Cemetery, Chester.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday. The family will receive friends on 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to family choice.
