Rev. SHAFTER SLAVEN was killed in the coal mines where he worked last week near Stearns, Kentucky and his body was brought here for funeral and burial Sunday. Rev. SLAVEN was 43 years of age, being born on April 28, 1898. He was splendid man and Minister of the Gospel. He joined the Baptist church about eight years ago and was ordained as a minister about two years later. He was pastor of two Baptist churches at the time of his death. He married Miss FRONA CARSON to which union were born nine children, six of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow; two sons and one daughter; one brother, QUINCY SLAVEN of Oxford, Indiana; three sisters, Mrs. WARDEN SLAVEN of Oneida, Mrs. SAMPSON ROSS of Oneida, and Mrs. MAYNARD TERRY of Cooperative, Ky.; also a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church of Oneida Sunday afternoon with Revs. LELAND THOMAS, L. MAYNARD JEFFERS, and FRED RUDDER in charge.
