Daniel was injured, ultimately causing his death. It seem as though sometime around 1885/6, Daniel, relatives and neighbors were erecting a log barn behind their home. The barn had reached the height of approximately 10'. The process was to use an inclined ramp and roll, hoist and slide the logs to their location. The logs being used were about 11" in diameter and approximately 30' long. As one of the logs was being moved into place a support or rope broke causing the log to fall. To save a neighbors life Daniel jumped in and took the total weight of the log upon himself until the man could remove himself. The weight and strain of the log caused Daniel to become paralyzed and remained in that condition for about 2 or 3 years before his death in 1888.
