SYLVIA JOHNSON, 94, of St. Ignace, died Thursday morning, May 12, 2005 at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care.

She was born January 2, 1911 in St. Ignace to Matt and Anna Fredericka (nee Feltman) Johnson.

She was confirmed at the Lutheran Church October 17, 1926 and was a member of Zion Evangelical Luthern Church. She was the congregation's oldest member and a member of Ruth Circle.

Ms. Johnson cooked at the St. Ignace Lodge, worked for the Eby family for many years and worked for years in the laundry department at Mackinac Straits Hospital, beginning employment there before the Long Term Care facility was added.

Ms. Johnson was an avid baseball fan who enjoyed traveling to games with her son, Butch, and watching the Kentucky Derby.

She was a member of the Rebeccah Lodge.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families, Mary Trombley of St. Ignace, Leonard "Cap" Trombley of Rudyard, Elinor and Ben Kokko od Farmington Hills, Corky and Dale Holmberg of Midland, Paul and Mary Ellen Sorenson of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Edythe Ritter of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Wally and Charlene Sorenson of Garden City, Pat and Frank Vreeland of Bruce, Wisconsin, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lyle "Butch" Johnson, February 18, 2005, by four sisters, Hilda Trombley in 1987, Amy Cheeseman in 1989, Anna Sorenson in 1974 and Mary Howard in 1983, and by a brother, Matt in 1970.

Her many friends called at Dodson's Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15 from 5pm to 8pm. A funeral was on Monday, May 16 at 11am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey officating.

Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery beside her only child, a beloved and devoted son, Lyle "Butch" Johnson.
