He was the son of John G. & Susan Albright and the husband of Sarah H. Davis, with whom he fathered four children. Sarah died, date unknown, and he married Alice Jane Burd in Perry County. The daughter on the tombstone is Alice's and George's. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Newport, Perry County. He stood 5' 7" tall and had brown hair and hazel eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted August 31, 1864, with Co. E, 208th Pa Inf, at the rank of private. Wounded during the final assault on Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865, but honorably discharged with his company on June 1, 1865.
After the war, he moved to Harrisburg. He left Alice c. 1916 because he had fathered a child with another woman. They did not divorce. According to Alice, "what he earned went principally for whiskey." To the extent that his war experience caused his post-war alcoholism would be conjectural but a strong possibility given the hellish nature of the attack on Petersburg.
