A. Boyd Claggett, 81, died Saturday, Feb 21, at the Lake District Hospital in Lakeview.

Boyd was born Feb. 18, 1917 in Salem to Benjamin and Mabel (Noren) Claggett. He grew up there attending and graduating high school. In 1941, Boyd entered the United States Army and was discharged on Sept. 25, 1945 at the Rank of Staff Sergeant.

Following his military service, Boyd attended college where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in field Biology from Oregon State University. He then went to work for the Oregon State Fish and Game Department as a field biologist. In 1952, Boyd moved to Summer lake and in 1957 assumed the position of manager. He retired from that position in Summer Lake in 1980.

Boyd was maried to Rosalie Tucker Van Horn on May 22, 1954 in Lakeview. She preceded him in death in 1985. Boyd was a life member of the Lakeview Elks' Lodge, the lakeview Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4070 and the Lake County Historical Society. Most recently, Boyd was able to attend a dedication and recognotion of his continuous service to the Summer Lake Refuge held Feb. 1, this year.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Sylvia Forbes. Boyd is survived by his son: Keith L Casey" Claggett of Keizer; Daughter, Sue Stubblefield of Paducah, Ken., Sister:, Usona Baker of Portland; and three grandchildren A Commemoration Service of Tribute and Love was held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. at Ousley Osterman Huffstutter Funeral Chapel with John Hurr officiating. The Veterans of Foreign Wars post #4070 also participated. A gathering at the Elk's lodge followed the service.

Private interment will be held at a later date at the Sunset Cemetery.
