Linda Bellande, a Coldwell Banker Realtor in the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton area, died on Sept. 7, 2007, from lung cancer. She moved to Chicago from a small town in Tennessee in 1961 and immediately fell in love with Chicago and met Louis, whom she would marry two years later. She moved her young family to Geneva, Illinois in the late 70's, began her interior design business and allowed her beautiful home to be on the Geneva Garden and Christmas Walks.

She moved to the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn area in the early 80's and in April of 1986, she started working for Merrill Lynch Real Estate in Glen Ellyn. By the last quarter of her first year in that business, she was the number one Realtor for Merrill Lynch in the Western Suburbs. Linda has been servicing home buyers and sellers ever since. While at Merrill Lynch, and the companies that succeeded it, she won countless plaques and awards and even a Mexican vacation. Because of her design background, she had a unique ability to suggest what sellers should do, inexpensively, to make their homes more salable and to locate homes for buyers that would be just right for their families and which would be ahead on the appreciation curve. She especially enjoyed working with young couples looking for their first property and teaching them how to effectively negotiate. Before "sitting" at an open house, she could usually be seen sweeping out the garage or cleaning the windows in her high heels. She had a prodigious memory and could remember the details and prices of the homes she sold years before. Sometimes, she would connect a new buyer with a former client, whose home was not on the market, knowing she had a more suitable home for the former client and that all parties would be blessed in the process. She was also the "go-to" person in her office for all the new Realtor's. But all of her many clients and friends will remember her not so much for her real estate prowess, but for her kindness, ability to listen and capacity to empathize.

Linda was a passionate Christian. In the early 70's she attended Moody Bible Institute night school and was always involved in the churches she attended. Earlier in 2007, she began a bible study in her home for other Realtor's seeking meaning for their lives. And when she entertained, it was in the Southern tradition -on a grand scale, even for her immediate family. Despite her hectic work schedule, she made time to be the "room mother" for her children's grammar school classes. But no matter how busy she was, she made sure that her work did not interfere with her fun. She loved lunching in Oak Brook or Geneva with her friends, shopping and taking advantage of the sales. She endured breast cancer, chemo and radiation in 1998 and had been dealing with other serious medical issues in recent years.

She is survived by Louis Bellande, her husband, Peter Bellande, her son, and Rachel Bellande, her daughter. Her two sisters, Bobbie DeFrancesca of Chicago, and Ruth Kendall, of Hornbeak, Tennessee, mourn her passing as do their families, Michelle Reich, James Reich and their children, all of Park Ridge, Illinois and Vickie and Mike Alford of Dyer, Tennessee. She is also survived by her husband's sister and her husband, Signe and Fred Specht of Lawrenceville, Georgia and their children and grandchildren.

Linda L. Bellande will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the Gary United Methodist Church, located at 224 N. Main St. in Wheaton. For information, 630-668-0027.
