Dr. Mac E. Barrick, 58, of Shippensburg, died Sunday in his home.

Born July 5, 1933, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late J. Russell and Ella Stover Barrick.

He was a college professor at Shippensburg University, where he worked in the Spanish and folklore departments. He received his bachelor's degree in 1955 from Dickinson College, his master's degree in 1957 from University of Illinois and his Ph.D. in 1965 from University of Pennsylvania.

He taught from 1955-1957 at University of Illinois; from 1958-1961 at the University of Pennsylvania; from 1961-1964 at Lycoming College; during the summer of 1961 at University of Delaware; from 1967-1969 at Villanova University; from 1964-1968 at Dickinson College; and started in 1968 at Shippensburg University.

He served as a member of Governor's Folklife Advisory Commission from 1982 to 1988. He was president of Pennsylvania Folklore Society from 1985-1988.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Jean Moffitt Barrick; one daughter, Melodi Barrick Kownacki of Newville; and one sister, Ruth Barrick Heishman of Carlisle.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Egger Funeral Home, 15 Big Spring Ave., Newville, with the Revs. Dr. Michael Dorley and Joseph Miller officiating. Burial will be in Doubling Gap Church of God Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
