Big Game Rifle Kills Hunter; Companion held for Homicide

A Neenah man is being held and will be charged with negligent homicide and illegal use of firearms in connection with the deer hunting accident which took the life of Anton J. Przybylski,44, 918 Adams St. Neenah.

The accident occurred Saturday morning when Przybylski was sitting at the wheel of his car with his two sons, Anton, Jr., and Robert. He was struck in the left side by a slug from the deer rifle of Ambrose Naleway, 1704 Henry St.

The accident occurred while the Przybylski party was hunting near Readfield in Waupaca County. Waupaca County Sheriff Ray Abrahamson said the hunting party told him they were driving on a town of Caledonia road when they saw a deer from the road. The fatal bullet was discharged as Naleway shoved a clip into the weapon. The party had been hunting Saturday morning in Waushara county where big game rifles are a legal weapon.

Abrahamson said that since the use of big game rifles and hunting from the road were illegal in this county, Naleway was being held and would definitely be charged with negligent homicide and illegal use of firearms.

Accoring to the coroner, the bullet entered Przybylski right shoulder and left through his chest. The hunting party took him to the New London Hospital about 2:30 pm.
Przybylski died at 5:45 Saturday night at New London Hospital, where he was taken by Naleway and other members of the hunting party. The stricken man's family was summoned from Neenah and reached the hospital before he died.

Anton Przybylski, a machine operator for the city of Neenah, where he had resided for the last 18 years, was born April 14, 1915 in Junction City.

He was an active at St. Margaret Mary Church.
