Private Joseph Boone served in the Confederate army. He enlisted as a private on June 27, 1861. He was 28 years old. He enlisted in Company E, 6th Infantry Regiment, North Carolina. On July 21, 1861 he was wounded at the Battle of First Manassas.

He married Delilah "Lila" Lilley Howell.

He died about 1880/early 1881. (Delilah remarried on 7-11-1881 to Joseph Tolley.

Joseph's wife, Delilah Howell was the daughter of James Howell and Martha "Patty" Hill who are buried at the Howell Cemetery in Mitchell County.
