Walter Lacy Christian Family

Walter, the second child and oldest son of Will and Annis, was born January 19, 1903, in the little community of old Hansford in Hansford County. The family moved to Plemons where Walter attended all of his schooling.

While still a teenager, Walter and his brother Buck, would use their papa's horses to pull trucks and cars across the Canadian River at the crossing near Plemons.

He met and married Myrtle Sessions on May 8, 1924. They had two sons Walter Lacy Jr. born March 8, 1925, and Charles Sutton born January 18, 1927, the infant Charles and his mother both died four days after his birth on January 12, 1927.

About this time the oil fields were in full operation, Walter went into the dirt-moving business digging slush pits and cellars for the drilling rigs. Horses were used in this work since those were the days before the bull-dozer and other heavy equipment.

In 1930 Walter married Neva Lippard and moved into his father's ranch a few miles north of Stinnett and began ranching, In 1935 he and Neva were divorced and Walter went back to work in the oil fields.

In 1942 Walter volunteered for military service and became the Chief Petty Officer in the Sea Bees and served in the South Pacific. He was discharged in August 1945. He joined the VFW and signed up his brother, Buck and Paul, who were still in the service. As soon as his little brother Roy was discharged, Walter made him sign up too and all four became life members and very active in their Post. They were honored for holding the most combined family memberships in the VFW in the United States.

After discharge, Walter went into the construction business in Stinnett. He built and repaired homes and businesses. He continued this type of work until his retirement in 1965.

In 1948 Walter had married Boss Hicks Allison. Boss died in 1965. Finally Walter married Faye Dawson in 1968 and they lived on Greenough St. in Stinnett until Walter's death on June 10, 1969. Faye continued to live at that address.

One of the best memories his nieces have of Walter was the old paint horse he kept. The girls enjoyed riding this gentle, yet ornery horse. This was the horse most of them learned to ride on. They also enjoyed the other animals Walter kept on a few acres of land just outside of Stinnett. In particular was a goat that would eat anything they fed him.

Lacy Christine [sic]got his education in the Stinnett School graduating from High School in 1943. He went to West Texas State College for two years after which he married Annie Mildred Farrell, April 7, 1945 Lacy met Mildred when he was in the hospital in Dallas. She was a student nurse at Baylor Hospital.
