Alta Elizabeth Hansen Stewart Bodily, 97, of Idaho Falls, died Aug. 2, 2009, at her home of causes incident to age. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

Alta was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Upper Presto, Bingham County, Idaho, to Remes Peter Hansen and Mary Amelia Hansen. She grew up in Presto and attended grade school there, then went to Firth High School.

She married Roland Asher Stewart on Jan. 21, 1932, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized Sept. 10, 1969, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was a homemaker and mother, and also worked as a quilter, drapery maker, interior decorator and bookkeeper/secretary for the carpenter's union. She lived in Farmington, Salt Lake City and Brigham City, Utah, during World War II, but lived most of 75 years in Idaho Falls in the same house. Roland passed away Nov. 12, 1967.

She married Suel Matkin Bodily on Nov. 6, 1976, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Following retirement, they wintered in Overton, Nev. He passed away Sept. 10, 1996. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Relief Society secretary, 6th Ward historian, and volunteered in the clothing department at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was a Girl Scout leader and "stamp lady" who sold stamps for savings bonds. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing and camping, crocheting and beading.

Survivors include her children, Mary Almeda Kresse of Sunnyside, Wash., Barbara (LeMoyne) Johnston of Idaho Falls, Remes Waldon (Shirlene) Stewart of Idaho Falls, Alta Jeanette (Donald) Luce of Shelley and Rose Claire (Gary) Tyger of Shelley; 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, all her siblings, a stepdaughter and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Idaho Falls LDS Park Taylor Ward, 1291 W. 6500 South, with Bishop Gregory Meacham officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
