Her mother died in Germany when she was young girl. Her father, Carl Buchholz and a sister, traveled with her from Germany. Her father remarried in Bremer County, IA, to widow named Fredricke Lageschulte. They had one son, William.
Joachim and Wilhelmina enjoyed good heath. They celebrated their golden wedding aniversery on December 7, 1912. They had eight children born to their union; Minnie, Charles, Wilhelm Frederick, Fred, Gustav, Lena, Anna, and Ida. Wilhelmina died October 28, 1926, at the age of 87 years
