Born Dec 31, 1928, in Elbrook, he was the son of the late Abram R and Mary E. (Stamy) Benedict. His early life was lived in Shady Grove.
Mr. Benedict graduated from Greencastle High School with the Class of 1946.
He and his wife, W. Jean (Barkdoll) Benedict, were married July 28, 1951, in her home in Rouzerville. THe moved to the present residence in 1961.
Mr. Benedict was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for 43 years where he programmed machinery. In his early employment at the company, he learned the molder's trade. He retired in January 1990. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Martin's Food, Waynesboro.
He was a member of the Rouzerville Lutheran Church, where he was taught Sunday School. He held several positions within the church, including superintendent of the Sunday School classes, the treasurer of the Sunday School adn on the council of the church.
He was a member of hte Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; greencastle Sportsment; Salem Lodge Free and Accepted Masons 196, Smithsburg; Cumberland Valley Fireman's Association; and the national AARP.
He served as cub master of Pack 44, Rouzerville, and was a life member of the ATH&L Fire Co., Waynesboro.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis W. Benedict in 1974 and a brother, Harry S. Benedict in 1995.
