Henry Luehrs Chilton Times August 7, 1880

Died – At his residence in the village of Hayton, Calumet county, on the 23rd day of July 1880, Henry Luehrs. The deceased was born in Mehlen, near the famous city of Hamburg, Germany. At Holstein he fell in loved and married Miss Moeller, sister of Adolph Moeller, Esq., of New Holstein, in this county. The nuptial vows were fervently observed until Death silently and quietly spirited the good and purity of his earthly system to that "undiscovered country from whence no traveler returns.' As a man, husband, father, friend, or neighbor he had few equals and no superiors, and since we have known him, although differing in politics, nationality and religion, we could take him by the hand of fellowship and listen to his honest remark; "We are all Americans now. Let us all live up to the Constitution and Laws of our adopted country, preserve a Republican form of government, and no matter which party is in power let the officers understand that each individual person is a sovereign in his own right."
Such kind of remarks kindle the soul of patriotism and conclusively proved that the love of obligation was nearer and dearer to his heart that mere mercenary objects or personal gratification. He was a man who, where known, was respected and beloved, and we have no doubt but that he was selected to ascend to Heavenly bliss in a Palace, escorted by one of the most beautiful angels of the Mansion above the skies. Good bye, old friend, although absent, you are not forgotten. We almost forgot to mention that the deceased came to America in 1857, and prior to locating in this county, resided at Plymouth. His aged mother is still a resident of the "father land," and to her, the partner of his joys and sorrows and other bereft relatives in behalf of all that is good, true and beautiful, we extend two hands, Sympathy and Regret.
