"Florence Virginia Ockander
The subject of this sketch was born and reared on a farm northwest of Weston, Nebr., February 16, 1909 and died April 1, 1927, having attained the age of 18 years, 1 month and 15 days. She suffered an attack of measles and peritonitis causing her death after but several days of illness after all the best of care and medical attention the Lord deemed it fit to call her to the Great Beyond.
She was brave, gentle and kind, both to the young and elderly, and always greeted everyone with a smile regardless of circumstances and she was honest and true in all her dealings. To her parents she looked upon with honor, love and respect and never failed to fulfill any task regardless of what it was, and to know her was to love her.
She passed the 8th grade and also attended high school and being the eldest girl of the family her love for her parents prompted her to give up education and help along with general work at home. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Ockander, six brothers, namely Lawrence, Vedor, Leonard, Howard, Kenneth and Verner and one sister Miss Lorin, who attends high schools at Wahoo.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, April 4, 1927 at the home with Rev. Fant of Malmo, officiating. Acting as pall bearers were: Messrs Palmgreen [sic], Roslund, Anderson, Roslund, Nelson and Anderson."
