CONWAY -- Mr. Worth E. "Billy" Lassiter, 85, of Conway, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley in Rich Square.
A native of Northampton County, Mr. Lassiter was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Lassiter; and his parents, Henry Burton and Mary Allen Lassiter.
A retired farmer in Northampton County, he was a devoted member of Conway United Methodist Church, faithfully serving in all major and minor church offices and quietly illustrated the Christian way of living. He loved gardening and generously shared his harvest with his community. Also, he was a veteran of World War II serving six years in the Army, which included time in France in the European Theater.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hettie Bottoms Lassiter of the home; one son, Jerry Lassiter and his wife, Lynne, of Littleton; one daughter, Jo Ann L. Finch and her husband, Dale, of Raleigh; two grandsons, Jimmy Lassiter of Seattle, Wash., and Billy Lassiter and his wife, Stacey, of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, at Conway United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Butson officiating. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, July 8, in the social hall of Conway United Methodist Church.
