According to page 2 from the records and recollections of Leona Bagg, "Ezekiel Crandall and Nathan Taylor built the first house in South New Berlin. Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of Mrs. Crandall by a former marriage and the two families built a double log house. South New Berlin was orinally called Crandallstown in honor of Mrs. Taylor's family. However, its name changed to South New Berlin in the middle of the 19th century.
