He always went by his middle name, Talmadge. He and his first wife, Irma Mullins, were the parents of: Jesse Talmadge "J.T.", Jr., Eileen, Geraldine, Jack, Lawrence and Christine. He later married Dorothy and had a son, Lonnie.
