DR. H. M. BROOKS LAID TO REST AT OLIVE BRANCH.

Union County's Oldest Physician Died Wednesday Morning in a Charlotte Hospital - Was a Native of New Salem Township.

Dr. H. M. Brooks, a native of New Salem township, died Wednesday morning in a Charlotte hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for several weeks. His death was not unexpected as he had been in ill health for a long time. He was sixty-five years old and is survived by one son, Mr. Julian C. Brooks, county attorney, and one daughter, Miss Odell Brooks. Mrs. J. D. Medlin of Monroe township and Mrs. Dock Kiker of Anson county are sisters of the deceased. Mrs. Brooks, who was Miss Ida Guy of Virginia, died last December.

For more than forty years Dr. Brooks had been practicing medicine in his home community, returning there shortly after graduating from the University of Maryland in 1879. He was well prepared for his life work, as he stood first in his class. He was a hard working man; but never to busy to answer a charity call or to help those who were needy. He was one of the best loved men in his community.

Funeral services were conducted at Olive Branch with Masonic honors yesterday afternoon, a large number of friends attending. Dr. Brooks was a life-long member of the Methodist church.
